Sai Wan Ho

This area is directly east of Taikoo Shing and is divided by the Eastern Corridor Highway.

Further east lie Shau Kei Wan and Chai Wan, the end of the MTR line.

Tai Hong Street runs along the waterfront, and in recent years has become a mecca for trendy restaurants. It extends south to the King’s Road.



Residential Blocks

?Sai Wan Ho is primarily a residential area. It was once filled with squatter huts but those were demolished and extensive reclamation was carried out between 1980 and 2000 and many tall new residential developments have been built since then such as Les Saisons, Lei King Wan and Grand Promenade. Further south there are many older buildings.

Schools

The Korean International School is located in the area south of Tai Hong Street. It has primary & secondary departments and a kindergarten. It has a Korean section and also an international section which is taught in English and follows the British curriculum.



Transportation

For public transport Sai Wan Ho MTR station is served by the district line. There is a tram depot between North Point and Shau Kei Wan. There are ferry services from Sai Wan Ho to Tung Lung Island and also to Kwun Tong and Sam Ka Tsuen, both on Kowloon Peninsula. There are numerous buses: 110, 14, 19, 2, 2A, 2X, 529, 606, 720, 722, 77, 81, 82, 85, 99, A12, 106, 682 & 694 and minibuses: route numbers 20, 65, 68 and 18 serving the area.

Facilities

Other facilities in the neighbourhood are the Sai Wan Ho Sports Centre which has squash, table tennis, badminton courts and a dance hall. There is also a public swimming pool in Lei King Road. Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre is a community arts centre and is home to a theatre which is used for a diverse range of productions. Hong Kong Film Archives are also located in the district.
